Welcome to Covalence Global

We are committed to climate actionism — vigorous action to combat the climate crisis.

2024 Yearly Report

Our 2024 yearly report highlights key insights from the Young Climate Prize, examines climate action trends in the post-COVID era, and introduces Covalence Global's new organizational structure featuring the Climate Map and the Action Hub. Join Sophia and Lulu as they reflect on these developments and share their vision for Covalence Global's future in addressing climate challenges.

Founded in 2020,

Covalence started as a small Bay Area beach cleanup organization.

In 2022, we went global. We created an international network, led global events, and initiated projects — all related to climate action and youth leadership.

Young Climate Prize 25 under 25

The World Around Young Climate Prize is a hybrid award and mentorship program that aims to amplify and accelerate the impact of global climate-change focused projects by pairing 25 young climate leaders under 25 years old with their own mentor from the global design and architecture community. Between January and March 2023, we were honored to be mentored by renowned Canadian designer Bruce Mau. The Prize culminated with a presentation at the Guggenheim Late Shift x YCP event.

“Our youngest Cycle 01 cohort members were also among our most ambitious. Sophia Tabibian and Lulu Goulet-Hofsass, were just 15 when they participated in the prize, and were mentored by Bruce Mau—who took on the opportunity to help refine and expand their Covalence project, and continues to offer support and guidance following the prize. In the video (above), Mau emphasizes that design is inherently a community-based practice, and that intergenerational collaboration is key to solving climate-based issues. Activism sometimes isn’t enough, he says, and decided with the mentees that “Actionism” is perhaps a better term for what they’re working towards.

Both Tabibian and Goulet-Hofsass describe how the Young Climate Prize has been invaluable in scaling Covalence and its impact from a local network of community groups to a truly global organization. Tabibian learned from Bruce how to rethink systems in order to become a better leader, while Goulet-Hofsass was able to turn her climate frustration into triumph at expanding their goal of getting more young people involved in the fight to save the environment.”

COP28 UAE Actionists

Actionism: vigorous action to bring about change.

Around the world, people are rising to the challenge that climate change presents. These actionists are crucial to keeping 1.5°C within reach. Action builds hope, inspiring us all to more action. The world’s actionists need us to support and amplify action. We need more actionists bringing new energy to accelerate solutions.

And now, we are concentrating our efforts on two, focused initiatives.
